Resin Process
Resin Bound Gravel is the process whereby decorative natural occurring gravels are bound to a suitable surface using a unique resin compound. The resin prevents the gravel from moving as it would normally in an unbound state. The resin forms an extremely strong bond between the gravel and surface to which it is applied.

Before Application

After Application

1) The original surface. The adjoining areas are masked off to ensure that no product spills over. The area to be surfaced with the Resin Bound Gravel is cleaned and thoroughly dried to ensure that all detritus materials and dirt is properly removed before the resin is applied.

2) If the base surface is concrete, a primer is applied prior to the resin application.  Once the resin is mixed, it is then systematically applied to the surface using a squeegie and roller.

3) As the resin is applied, the gravel is cast evenly onto the surface. It is important to do this relatively quickly as the resin can set within a matter of minutes depending on the weather conditions. The gravel is applied at a good thickness to ensure even coverage.

4) Both Steps 2 and 3 continue in unison until the whole area is completely covered.

5) Once the Resin Bound Gravel is applied to the entire area, and the resin has set, the excess gravel is brushed off the surface and disposed of.  If preferred some loose gravel can be left on the surface. A Resin Bound Gravel surface can be left with a natural gravel appearance or alternatively can be sealed, using a micro porous sealer. This helps protect the gravel and also gives the surface a slight gloss appearance.

Base and Overlay
The Resin Bound Gravel needs to be applied to a good quality base surface. If this is not already in place then a base has to be installed before the Resin Bound Gravel can be applied.

Surface Solutions can supply and install a concrete base for a Resin Bound Gravel surface, however the base needs to be left for 28 days to ensure the concrete has fully cured before the application of Resin Bound Gravel.

The same steps are then followed as above.
